Wondering what a rolled pastry is that is German for ‘whirlpool’? Not sure what the area between North and South Korea is called? Don’t worry because I’m here to help you with the answers for today NYT Mini crossword.

The NYT Mini is a quick and dirty version of the newspaper’s larger and long-running crossword. Most days there are between three and five clues in each direction on a five-by-five grid, but the puzzles are sometimes larger, especially on Saturdays.

Unlike its larger sibling, the NYT Mini crossword is free to play on the New York Times website or NYT Games app. However, you have one NYT Game subscription for access to previous puzzles in the archives.

It cost me 2:50 to complete today’s day NYT Mini.

That’s not a terrible time for a tough Saturday grid. I only got ALABAMA, MOT and STAMMER on my first pass of the Across words. I did better on the Downs and got 1, 5, 6 and 7. That meant I had the first and last letter or two for each Across clue, which made things much easier. In the end it turned out that 12 Down was DMZ, which is a good thing because I’ve never heard of ADZES.
