ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1230: Hints, Clues, and Answers for Thursday, October 31

It’s November, dear Wordlers, and Halloween is over. Today is the beginning of Dia de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead. There’s no reason to stop celebrating once Halloween is over. This whole weekend is a spooky affair.

I’m a little sad that October is over. The heyday of autumn is behind us. Soon all the leaves will fall and the trees will become bare. The grim face of winter looms. We must stay warm and cheerful. However, I am looking forward to Thanksgiving, perhaps the best of all holidays. A party without presents.

Let’s solve this Wordle for now! Oh, and it’s 2XP Friday, so double your points and losses!

Word analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot here.

It would have been pretty funny to get this one on my sixth try. Irony is fun. Unfortunately, I made four guesses today. PEACH got me down to just 42 words, and SOUTH got that down to 3. But out of three options, it’s still a tough bet, and I was that close with SMITH. All that was left for my fourth guess was the SIXTH. Huzzah!

Competitive Wordle Score

Can you solve today’s sentence?

I get 0 points for guessing four points and -1 for losing against the Bot. Today that is -1 x 2 or -2 in total. Shame!

How to Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent, you get 1 point. In case of a draw you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or play for a new score every day.
  • Friday is 2XP, which means you double your points: positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day by day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word sixth traces back to Old English sixmeaning ‘sixth in order’. This comes from Proto-Germanic sehs-ta- and ultimately from the Proto-Indo-European root sex, meaning ‘six’. The suffix “-th”, used for ordinal numbers in English, marks their order.
