Toothless, hiccup in live action

Hiccup and Toothless are finally in live action for the first time.

Universal Studios has released the first trailer for the live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon,” following the release of the hit DreamWorks Animation trilogy in the 2010s. The new film hits theaters on June 13.

The live-action version features many of the original characters played by new faces. They include Mason Thames (“The Black Phone”) as Hiccup, Nico Parker (“Dumbo,” “The Last of Us”) as Astrid and Julian Dennison (“Deadpool 2”) as Fishlegs Ingerman. Gerard Butler plays Hiccup’s father Stoick the Vast, after voicing the character in the animated trilogy.

The trailer introduces Hiccup, Stoick and Toothless, who look exactly like their animated counterparts. As part of his Viking training, Hiccup is assigned to go out and kill a dragon, but instead he befriends the adorable dragon Toothless.

Dean DeBlois, who wrote and directed all three “How to Train Your Dragon” animated films, has the same responsibilities for the live-action film. The DreamWorks films include the original ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ in 2010, ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ in 2014 and ‘How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World’ in 2019. Based on the book series by Cressida Cowell, the films follow a young man named Hiccup who encounters a captured, injured dragon that he befriends, trains, and eventually names Toothless. The storyline takes place on the island of Berk, where a group of Vikings live. The franchise also includes three TV series, theme park attractions and a live show, ‘How to Train Your Dragon on Ice’. In total, the series has grossed more than $1.6 billion worldwide.
