Tottenham Hotspur vs. Aston Villa: fixture time, live blog and how to watch online

A terrible defeat against cellar dwellers Crystal Palace, followed by an impressive victory over Premier League defending champions Manchester City in the League Cup.

It’s hard to know what to expect from Tottenham Hotspur these days, and Sunday’s match against Aston Villa presents an interesting challenge.

However, calling Spurs inconsistent is probably an unfair statement. Spurs’ home form has been excellent and they have recorded eight wins in their last ten games. While you wouldn’t exactly call the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a fortress, the atmosphere there has built up all season and Spurs have generally been excellent, even if the Premier League points table doesn’t quite reflect that.

However, Aston Villa are a tough opponent and the Lilywhites will go into the match without some key players. While the hope is that captain Son Heung-min can make his return, a hamstring injury to Micky van de Ven means that Spurs will, at least partially, play a rotated back line, with Cristian Romero and Timo Werner both leaving the field in midweek with what seemed like problems. Villa, who have had a turbulent season themselves, will be keen to prove a point against a strong opponent, and Spurs will need to make sure they embrace the fullness of Ange-ball to ensure the points stay where they are . they belong.

Match thread rules

The rules for match threads are the same as always. All visitors who come here for the first time: welcome! We’re glad you’re here! Wipe your feet, pay attention to the gaps and be sure to check out the other pages on this excellent site. However, while you are here, we have a few rules and regulations:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They are bad and they get us into trouble. Violators are warned or excluded.
  • We have rules against ‘relentless negativity’. No one likes a negative Nancy. Don’t post bizarre or hurtful things just because you’re frustrated.
  • In that sense, outright abuse of players or match officials is also not permitted. It’s okay to say “wow, that was a really bad call,” but it’s NOT okay to direct copious amounts of abuse toward the official over a call you didn’t like.
  • Treat other people in the contest thread as you would want someone else to treat your grandmother. Be kind. This is a community of fans, not an unmoderated message board.
  • NO Spiders!
  • Finally, even though we don’t have a rule against profanity, try to keep the naughty words in check. Also, any language that is sexist, racist, transphobic or homophobic in nature will be quickly removed and you will be banned immediately. This is an open, supportive community.

Have fun, and COYS!
