Traffic guide to homecoming game and festivities in the state of Arizona

TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) – Arizona State University fans are gearing up for the big home game this weekend, and ASU police are expecting large crowds and heavy traffic.

The 21st-ranked Sun Devils will face 14th-ranked BYU on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. But before that, the famous parade and block party will take place at 9:30 am.

The block party will be held in Old Main, but the parade route runs between Forest Avenue and McAllister Avenue.

In preparation for the parade and block party, ASU Police will close University Drive Friday at 6 p.m

The closures on University Drive will take place between:

  • Collegelaan and McCallisterlaan
  • Rural road and mill lane

Jason Weber, with the ASU Police Department, says several officers and deputies will direct traffic coming home. Portable barriers will also be placed around the parade route and block party to keep everyone safe.

Knowing this will cause some delays down the road, so Weber recommends doing this to make your life a little easier.

“Expect a lot of people, I mean this game has been sold out for weeks. So make sure you have a plan on where to park and how to get there,” he explained.

Because general parking has been reduced to $20 as part of ASU’s game day improvements for this season, Weber recommends purchasing your general parking passes now.

However, if you don’t feel like parking, Weber says the light rail is your best option.

“The light rail will be useful because you have to park a little further away, so it will be easy to park. Then when you leave, there will be less traffic than here in the stadium,” he said.

At the end of the match on Saturday, the barriers and closures will be lifted.
