Actress and director Justine Bateman has expressed her excitement over Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election, believing it marks the end of the ‘woke era’.
According to Fox News, Bateman explained that she sees Trump’s victory as a victory over political correctness and the cancel culture which she thinks was suffocated free speech and creativity of recent years.
Bateman shared her belief that the “mob mentality” that fueled cancel culture no longer prevails. She explained: ‘What I’m really excited about is that political correctness, the kind awake erais over… you need it mafia mentality momentum to keep that going, and when Trump won, that momentum was cut short.”
She also linked the shift to what she described as a “spiritual change” that began when Elon Musk took over Twitter and transformed it into X, and accelerated when Trump returned to power. According to Bateman, these events marked a new phase in which society could move beyond the limitations imposed by political correctness and emotional hostility.
“Things are not moving forward in the arts, in philosophy, in politics, in medicine… innovation has been stagnant for at least four years, and now that has changed,” Bateman said. She argued that the focus on ‘mafia mentality’ has hampered innovation and limited freedom of expression, which she now believes is shifting towards a more open and dynamic future.
Bateman has long been an outspoken critic of AI technology, advocating for the rights of creative individuals, and is a staunch supporter of trade union rights. However, she refrained from discussing her position on issues such as AI exploitation, a point of difference between her views and those of Trump, Musk and Watters, with whom she shared the conversation.
Although she did not reveal whether she was voting for Trump, Bateman made it clear that her concerns had more to do with the cultural and spiritual implications of the political climate than party politics.
She summarized her views by saying, “I feel like there has been a shift spiritually, and I’m very excited about what will emerge.” For Bateman, Trump’s election symbolizes the end of what she describes as “emotional terrorism” and the return of freedom of expression for all.
