Trump remembers first day in White House to Joe Rogan: ‘It was surreal’

Former President Donald Trump recalled his first day in the White House to podcast host Joe Rogan on Friday, calling it a “surreal” moment.

Trump joined “The Joe Rogan Experience” on Friday for a highly anticipated interview. Rogan began the three-hour episode by asking the former president to describe how he felt when he entered the White House in January 2017.

“It was very surreal… when I got shot, it wasn’t surreal. That should have been surreal,” Trump said, referring to the first assassination attempt on him in July.

“So I’m driving down Pennsylvania Avenue… you’ve never seen so many motorcycles, police, military… and I wanted to go outside and I wanted to wave at everyone, but that wasn’t smart,” he continued. “But I really felt… I don’t know, the love was so crazy.”

Rogan also asked Trump to explain how he felt about his own “ability to govern” as he entered the White House, noting that the former president had never held elected office until then.

“This is your first experience of governing anything… now all of a sudden you’re in the White House,” Rogan said.

The most important thing for me was just that first moment that I was in this holy, truly holy place,” Trump replied. “For me that was the experience, it was a surreal experience.”

Friday’s interview was released with just under two weeks until Election Day. A poll published by the New York Times and the Siena College Research Institute showed on Friday that Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are in a dead heat in the race for the White House. Both candidates received the support of 48% of the 2,516 voters surveyed for the poll.
