Two former Sharks have been placed on NHL waivers

Two former San Jose Sharks were placed on waivers today by their respective teams. The Toronto Maple Leafs waived Matt Benning, and the Colorado Avalanche waived Kaapo Kahkonen.

Benning was traded to Toronto on October 30, along with two draft picks. The Sharks acquired former first-round pick Timothy Liljegren.

The Maple Leafs reportedly wanted to do the right thing for Benning and move him to another team. They felt he was still a good NHL player, but there wasn’t room for him.

Kahkonen was waived by the Winnipeg Jets early in the season and claimed by the Avalanche. The former Sharks goalie played one NHL game on October 30 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He conceded four goals on twenty shots.
