USMNT 4-2 (5-2 overall) Jamaica: Three things we learned, video highlights

The United States men’s national team used an electric attack to dismantle Jamaica 4-2 and beat the Reggae Boyz 5-2 to reach the CONCACAF Nations League semifinals for the fourth straight tournament.

Weston McKennie set up two Christian Pulisic goals, while Ricardo Pepi and Timothy Weah also scored as the USMNT built a 4-1 lead. Demarai Gray scored both of Jamaica’s goals.

The Nations League semi-finals and finals will be held in Inglewood, California between March 20 and 23, 2025. The Yanks are the first team to qualify for the final four.

The Yanks had a 1-0 lead after the first leg thanks to Pepi’s goal in the 5th minute and another assist from Christian Pulisic. They are the only team to win the CNL.

Three things we learned from USMNT’s win over Jamaica

Everyone eats while Pochettino puts a feather in his cap

The criticism of the USMNT under Gregg Berhalter, sometimes even from players, has been a lack of ideas in the final third. That wasn’t a problem Monday, as the Yanks overwhelmed Jamaica with fluidity, movement and power. Pulisic is at the height of his powers and his first goal was a stunner, but this too was about the sum of the attacking parts. Antonee Robinson played a sensational game on the left, constantly feeding the attackers. In fact, every starter apart from the centre-forward rushed forward with force to fill the gaps in attack. This was an “Everyone Eats” situation, even though the reports will show Pulisic as the glutton.

Questions in the back

Joe Scally was very good in the build-up but was given a front row seat to both Jamaican goals and certainly bears a large part of the blame for Jamaica’s second goal when he allowed Renaldo Cephas to get on his right foot and fire a shot on target let go. Matt Turner – who had a good day – saved that, but Demarai Gray provided the rebound. Mark McKenzie and Tim Ream were generally decent with the ball as a central defender duo, with Ream particularly once again showing his passing ability, but neither player made the kind of defensive impression you’d want, even on a sloppy pitch . . There are still openings for starting center back spots at the World Cup, as Cameron Carter-Vickers, Chris Richards, Auston Trusty and others will be hopeful to feature in March.

Pepi takes another — Will Folarin Balogun return to a starting role?

There is no doubt that Folarin Balogun has been in the driver’s seat to become the USMNT’s No. 9, but Ricardo Pepi’s finish on Monday showed a man in form. He is also in demand across Europe, and has now scored thirteen goals in a USMNT shirt – one in two legs against Jamaica. Haji Wright and Josh Sargent also want their rushing minutes. But Pepi’s goals and play over two legs will play a good role in Pochettino’s emotional memory as he prepares for the CONCACAF Nations League semi-final. Will Balogun return to a starter role once he’s healthy?

Christian Pulisian response

“It was a great performance,” Pulisic said after the win over TNT. “We came out really hot. It was nice to get an early goal and we built on that.

“It was very important to go to Jamaica and get a result. I thought we deserved that, and we showed a really strong mentality to come back here and win this.

“We should definitely feel good after these results. Of course we learn a lot of new things with a new coach. I thought it came together well today and hopefully we can continue to improve.”

Full-time – USMNT 4-2 Jamaica

A very good day for Pochettino’s men.

Pulisic, Robinson, McKennie, Weah and Tanner Tessmann all impressed.

Matt Turner was solid behind the back line.

And to think we haven’t even seen Tyler Adams in Pochettino’s lineup yet.

More subtitles

Cade Cowell and Brandon Vazquez come in for Weah and Pepi in the 77th minute.

Alejandro Zendejas comes on in the 88th for Yunus Musah.

First USMNT subs

Gianluca Busio and Brenden Aaronson come on for Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie, who scored the first two goals.

One of McKennie’s best games in a USMNT jersey.

Goal Demarai Gray — USMNT 4-2 Jamaica (68th minute)

Again too easy for Jamaica.

Renaldo Cephas is given time and space by Joe Scally, who comes onto his right foot to force a wet diving save from Matt Turner.

Gray puts in the rebound.

Timothy Weah goal! USMNT 4-1 Jamaica (56th minute)

That’s a response, guys.

McKennie’s access pass is advanced by a driving Robinson, who sees Pulisic in central position.

The AC Milan man holds the ball well and slides it wide to Yunus Musah, whose cross is good but difficult in the rain.

Weah takes it to town and absolutely rams it past Blake.

Good night.

Weah scores USMNT’s 4th goal against Jamaica

USMNT midfielder Tim Weah goes top of the line to give his team a 4-1 lead in St. Louis.

Goal Demarai Gray — USMNT 3-1 Jamaica (54th minute)

This is a very nice finish from the ex-Leicester City man, but he didn’t defend against the Yanks either.

Demarai Gray camps at the back and simply waltzes to the penalty spot for a cross, while Joe Scally worries about the striker in front of him and there is no midfielder in sight to help the right-back.

4-1 on aggregate in the 54th minute.

Gray puts Jamaica on the board against USMNT

Demarai Gray’s aerial finish gives Jamaica their first goal in the CONCACAF quarter-final against the USMNT.

Halftime — USMNT 3-0 Jamaica

This team plays beautiful attacking football.

70% of the ball. 6-2 shot attempts. 3-0 score.

Two goals for Pulisic, one for Pepi. Two assists for McKennie, one for Antonee Robinson.

Ricardo Pepi goal! — USMNT 3-0 Jamaica (42nd minute)

Antonee Robinson turns the ball inside to Pepi outside the 18.

The PSV player turns and rolls an extremely low shot into the far post.

The atmosphere is of the highest standard in Missouri.

Pepi finds the back of the net against Jamaica

USMNT forward Ricardo Pepi scores USMNT’s third goal of the night, putting them up 4-0 on aggregate against Jamaica in the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final.

Christian Pulisic goal! USMNT 2-0 Jamaica (33rd minute)

Let’s see if this is converted into an own goal, but boy was the build-up again decent.

Tanner Tessmann starts the move with a long ball and then drags his big frame into the 18.

He dummies Weston McKennie’s cross into the 18, and Pulisic is behind him to punch the ball off a defender and Padt Blake.

I don’t know if the ball was on target, but so far it’s being called another goal for the red-hot American.

Pulisic gets help from Jamaica for his brace

Christian Pulisic’s shot is blocked in the net by a Jamaican defender, giving the USMNT a 2-0 lead in St. Louis, Missouri.

This is all US

The Yanks have 80% possession in the first 28 minutes of this match and take four of the five shots of the match.

Two of them were on target, and the Yanks completed nearly five times Jamaica’s number of passes (277-57).

Christian Pulisic goal! USMNT 1-0 Jamaica (14th minute)

A fantastic goal.

Timothy Weah jumps Weston McKennie with a nice curling switch to the right.

McKennie swirls a beautiful cross into the path of Pulisic, who cuts past Andre Blake, via the far post, into the goal.

Beautiful stuff.

Pulisic scores in a stunning half-volley for USMNT

Christian Pulisic scores an impressive half-volley goal to extend the USMNT lead over Jamaica in the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final.

Brilliant move by the US

Christian Pulisic drops deep on the left and finds Timothy Weah, who starts the 1-2 with Antonee Robinson with a back leg pass.

Weah takes the ball from “Jedi” and drives into the penalty area, blasting the ball off the near post in what would have been a devastating opener.

0-0, 5′.

Notes on the setup

Neither Michail Antonio nor Mason Holgate for the Reggae Botz, as both players from the first leg are back at their English clubs. Amari’i Bell leads the backline, while Isaac Hayden gets his first start in the center of the park.

The Yanks drop Weston McKennie into midfield for the injured Johnny Cardoso, bringing Timothy Weah into the starting XI. Double Juve!

USMNT lineup

Turner, Robinson, Ream, McKenzie, Scally, Tessmann, McKennie, Weah, Pulisic, Musah, Pepi

Jamaican setup

Blake, Latibeaudiere, T. Gray, Bell, Bernard, Hayden, Lowe, Magee, D. Gray, Bailey, Nicholson

USMNT team news, focus

Tim Weah is expected to return to the line-up on Monday after serving his suspension, resulting in the remainder of the two-match suspension he received for his costly red card against Panama in the Copa America this summer, although it will be interesting to to see who gets his place. takes the team. Yunus Musah was one of the bright spots during Pochettino’s introductory period, a young player (still just 21) who made the most of his opportunities on the right wing in Weah’s absence. The obvious answer is that Johnny Cardoso suffered a hip injury in the first half on Thursday, but is it as simple as Musah sliding back into midfield when he hasn’t played there yet under Pochettino – and let’s be honest, he has had a hard time when he has played there in the past?

Team news from Jamaica, focus

Jamaica topped the table on Thursday with Michail Antonio himself serving a suspension, but the West Ham striker will be back in the team and ready to impress from the start when he returns on Monday. With the USMNT expected to dominate possession on their own pitch, Antonio will be one-on-two against Tim Ream and Mark McKenzie (or whoever starts at centre-back) for most of the evening. Demarai Gray suffered an injury in the first leg and is not expected to be available on Thursday.

USMNT vs Jamaica prediction

Pulisic leads the way again, with a goal (maybe two) and an assist. The opportunities will be there all night, it’s just a matter of being ruthless and taking them. With his confidence as high as it’s ever been, that won’t be a problem. USMNT 3-1 Jamaica.
