Verizon outage affects customers and businesses in Wood County

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Verizon’s ongoing power outages in Wood County have many concerned, including businesses that say the random outages could negatively impact them.

If you are in Wood County or are trying to reach someone there, you may be experiencing the Verizon outage.

“I thought it came over my personal cell phone. It wasn’t until this week that I discovered it was impacting our business,” said Jen Backus, office manager for Downey Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Electric.

Some Verizon customers may have received the notice within the last two weeks.

“Our big concern is that we pride ourselves on being a 24/7 company, and if our customers can’t reach us, it creates some doubt in their minds,” Backus said.

Verizon’s notice informs customers that they may experience temporary disruptions to cellular service and/or wireless internet at home.

In addition, in limited cases, work can be postponed for up to two weeks.

“It’s random, it’s very sporadic,” Backus said.

The outage is also beginning to impact Downey PHC in Wood County. It is a small family business that wants to be available because temperatures are expected to drop.

“We’re still here and we’re still in business, please keep trying,” Backus said.

Customers may be held back by the Verizon message and some may be able to reach the company, but there are concerns for senior customers.

“Some of our older customers don’t have email addresses and so if they’ve canceled their landline and they’re using a mobile device to reach us, that’s a concern of ours as well,” Backus added. .

Downey recommends that customers dial *67 first as this can sometimes complete calls.

As for Verizon Wireless, the text they sent says they are updating their network.

13 Action News reached out for an update and an exact timeline for outages, but we have not heard back.
