Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis could turn lemons into lemonade after Davante Adams was traded to the New York Jets on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters at the NFL owners meetings in Atlanta, Davis joked that the Raiders traded Adams in exchange for Tom Brady and a 2025 third-round draft pick.

The real story of the Raiders compensation for Adams, it was a conditional third-round pick. Brady entered the equation later in the day when he was approved by the other owners to become a limited partner as part of the Raiders’ ownership group.

While the Raiders don’t get the benefit of having Brady play quarterback for them, his name in the headlines on the same day they decided to move on from Adams makes it easier for fans to accept that they don’t have a star player.

Of course, the key for Brady to be involved in Raiders ownership is finding a way to make the franchise consistently successful.

Since Mark took over as the primary owner of the Raiders following the death of his father, Al, in 2011, they have had just two winning seasons and two playoff appearances. They haven’t won a playoff game since reaching the Super Bowl in the 2002 season.

For perspective, Brady had 32 playoff wins and six Super Bowl titles between 2003 and ’22. His only losing season as a starting quarterback in the NFL came in his senior year when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished 8-9.
