View the expected snowfall after issued warnings

Parts of New York are forecast to be pummeled with several inches of snow through Saturday morning, as the state is one of several regions in the Northeast and Northern Mid-Atlantic region experiencing winter weather.

Bad weather can cause travel headaches leading up to Thanksgiving. As several storms are monitored in New York City, those attending the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade are advised to “prepare for the possibility of some rain,” according to AccuWeather.

Central New York is under a winter storm warning until 4 p.m. Friday as snow totals are expected to accumulate depending on elevation, according to the National Weather Service. Valleys could see 1 to 4 inches of snow, but areas above 1,500 feet could see up to 12 inches of snow, the weather service said. At the highest elevations, snow can fall up to 16 inches.

The weather service warned that the snow could delay travel and hinder commuters during Friday morning and evening commutes. The heavy snow could also strain trees and power lines, NWS said.

“If you must travel, make sure you have an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency,” the weather service said. for those in the affected area.

Another 1 to 2 inches per hour was forecast to hit western parts of the Catskills, the weather service said.

In Albany, a winter storm warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday for the capital and surrounding areas, where 6 to 12 inches of snow could fall, according to the National Weather Service.
