Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was understandably proud of his players’ performances: “You could see it straight away, the players were absolutely sensational. When we turned the screw, we were really, really difficult to play against.

“Mentality, hunger, desire for more goals, desire for the ball, everyone worked until the end and we could have scored more than five.

“There were high expectations for the match, but for us it was mainly about not complicating the match.

“When we tightened the screws in the second half, we were really difficult to play against.

“This is the start we wanted, I don’t think we could have asked for a better start if it wasn’t for keeping a clean sheet, but it was a shame we didn’t.

“Our next three games are tough but exciting. We’ve started fantastically.”

Regarding the consecutive Champions League victories, he said: “It’s a small step, but we’ve taken an important step.”

On Celtic’s problems in this competition recently, Rodgers added: “I want to change that mood and that feeling. We’ve been working on that since the beginning of pre-season, so we can have that belief.

“This is the level, just don’t think about it too much.

“The razzmatazz around the Champions League is great, but we’re playing against a team that defends in 4-4-2, which we play against here in the league. OK, it’s different levels, but it’s still the same idea.”
