Weather alert: the chance of heavy storms returns on Wednesday

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The potential for severe weather returns across southern, central and eastern Kansas on Wednesday, so we have issued a Storm Team 12 weather warning for the area. The severe threat should occur in and around Wichita between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, after which storms will move east as the cold front continues to push through. The rain will be long gone by 10pm on Wednesday evening.

Another windy day awaits Wednesday with a wide range of temperatures from west to east, with highs in the upper 40s near Goodland, but warming into the mid-70s near Wichita. During the day the wind turns to the northwest.

There will be a calmer, much quieter day on Halloween with highs in the low 60s and sunshine for the region. Wind speeds will drop to below 25 km/h.

Another strong system should develop over the western U.S. next weekend, putting Kansas and the Plains back in position for good, soaking rain. Scattered storms will begin late Friday evening and continue until Election Day. Much of Saturday’s activity will likely be quite spread out, but rain will become more widespread once Sunday, Monday and Tuesday roll around. Up to 2 inches of rain can be expected in some places, which will likely fall over the eastern half of the state.
