LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – After seeing only a half inch of rain all month (which fell on one day on October 21st), we could very well match and POSSIBLY exceed that amount on Wednesday. This is all thanks to a cold front that will drop the highs to seasonal standards.

Let’s start with the falling temperatures. That front will move through most of Southeast Nebraska early Wednesday morning. Since this happens during the overnight hours, we expect our highs well before sunrise, with temperatures dropping into the low 50s throughout the day by afternoon. While the front has already moved through on Tuesday, the highs shown below will be in the afternoon. It’s a messy setup!

However, the serious threat increases after 7 a.m. and into the early afternoon hours. The setup is in place for isolated to scattered and perhaps even numerous severe thunderstorms with a chance of wind, hail and yes, even some isolated tornadoes.

We don’t want the severe weather, but we certainly want the soaking rain, and we can expect some rain to fall among these expected thunderstorms. There will be a tight gradient from low to high amounts, but anywhere from 0.25 to 2.00 inches MAY FALL from central to southeastern Nebraska, with the heavier amounts the further east you go. The Lincoln area could see 0.25 to 0.75 inches Wednesday evening.

And after many dry days the rain will not disappear quickly. Halloween and Friday will be dry, but unsettled weather is likely from Saturday to next Tuesday. Seasonal peaks also continue in November.
