West notes: Lehner, Perfetti, Jarventie

Robin Lehner‘s absence from the Golden Knights training camp to take (and fail) his physical has led the team to reportedly consider its options. However, the netminder told Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman that his absence was not unexpected:

All I can say at this point is that everyone knows why I couldn’t be there, I’m just waiting for things to be resolved.

Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon has already indicated that Lehner will not report to the team this season. The 33-year-old has been out of action for the past two years following hip surgery, and that will clearly be three years, based on McCrimmon’s statement. He will be LTIR-eligible again as a result, but Friedman noted that the team, Lehner and the NHLPA are working through the unique circumstances of this situation, so it may not be as straightforward as in past seasons.

More from the West:

  • Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported in the latest 32 Thoughts podcast (audio link) that Cole Perfecti‘s camp is reportedly using Ottawa’s two-year, $7.5 million deal as a point of comparison in contract talks, something the Jets likely want to avoid. The numbers between the two are fairly close; Perfetti has 75 points in 140 career NHL games, while Pinto has 70 in 140. While Pinto’s deal was essentially his third, he was not arbitration-eligible, making it a legitimate point of comparison. It’s clear that Winnipeg is hoping to get this deal below that price point.
  • New Oilers prospect Roby Jarventie will have to wait a while to make his case for a roster spot. Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal notes that while the 22-year-old has recovered from midseason knee surgery, he overcompensated with his other knee during recovery, forcing him to sit out for a few weeks to recover. Jarventie played in seven games with Ottawa last season, posting 20 points in 22 AHL games, and was acquired from the Sens in mid-July this summer.
