If you’re passing by for the first time and looking at the Cleveland Guardians, you may remember that this was the franchise once known as the Cleveland Indians.

So…what happened there? And why are they the Guardians now?

In 2020, the franchise announced that they would be doing away with the Indians nickname and the racist Chief Wahoo logo. And in 2021, we discovered the new nickname: the Cleveland franchise would be known as the Guardians, named after the statues on the Hope Memorial Bridge.
