Why the Eagles Won’t Wear Green in the Brazil-Packers Game

Fans of professional sports teams typically find countless ways to hate their rivals.

Whether it’s the closeness of the two teams, their lack of success, or even the players on the other team, anything can be used as an excuse to anger the fans.

Some have adopted the colors of their opponents because of their hatred.

This brings us to Friday night’s NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles, which will be played at the NeoQuimica Arena in São Paulo, Brazil.

Brazilian football club Corinthians, a permanent tenant of the NeoQuimica Arena, dislikes the colour green because of the long-standing rivalry with Palmeiras.

The NFL likely knew this and scheduled the two teams to play there anyway.

Players caught wearing it can be fined. The same edict applies to sponsors, who are also told to avoid the color at all costs.

Philadelphia is the designated home team and will wear black helmets, white jerseys and black pants — the same palette as Corinthians. It’s the first time in the team’s history that they’ll wear that combination of uniforms.

The Packers wear their white-yellow-green uniforms and actually had no choice in their choice of uniform.

According to the Associated Press, a memo stated that green could only be worn by the visiting team, in this case Green Bay.
