Wind, cooler temperatures, rain expected in El Paso County

El Pasoans should tie up those outdoor Halloween decorations as more wind and rain are expected.

Wind gusts could reach 39 miles per hour on Wednesday, October 16, according to the National Weather Service, with breezy conditions the rest of the week.

Peak gusts are expected to remain slightly above or at 20 miles per hour from Thursday, October 17 through Saturday, October 19.

Nearby counties in New Mexico could also experience high winds, with gusts of 40 mph expected in Deming, Silver City and Truth or Consequences on Friday.

The active weather is part of a backdoor cold front pushing through, which will drop temperatures a few degrees below normal before returning to slightly above normal next week, the National Weather Service said.

Friday, October 18 is expected to be the warmest this week, with a high of 82 degrees.

Chances of rain are also forecast. Thursday, October 17 and Sunday, October 20 offer the best chance of rain in El Paso with 15%.

When will El Paso freeze for the first time?

Although temperatures are expected to be above average, El Paso typically sees its first freeze – when air temperatures reach 32 degrees – in November.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, El Paso’s first fall frost this year will occur on Thursday, November 14. The forecast coincides with the average first freeze in El Paso.
