ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Winter storm warnings are in effect in New Mexico as places could see as little as 1 to 3 inches of snow – or as much as 12 feet of snow.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning early Wednesday morning. Most of the snow is expected to fall Thursday and Thursday nights, but could start Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The storm is approaching from the west with good wind currents upwards. That will bring heavy snow from around Torrance County north through western San Miguel County and into parts of Taos County and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Mountain peaks, about 8 to 8 feet high, could see as much as 200 to 30 feet of snow.

How much snow is expected? It varies widely – very widely. This is what we see at 3am on Saturday

An inch of snow is forecast to fall in Albuquerque. Meanwhile, in Santa Fe, 10 inches of snow is forecast to fall.

The big ‘winner’, at least if you like snow, is Las Vegas. Las Vegas is forecast to get 33.3 inches – almost a meter of snow. Clayton and Raton are also forecast to receive more than two feet of snow. Taos, Tucumcari and Santa Rosa will also see significant snowfall, without exaggeration.

Major snowfalls also have major consequences for travel. Click/tap the video above to see the latest full forecast, with what you need to know.
