    Wisconsin football vs Alabama score, live game updates, time, schedule

    The Wisconsin Badgers conclude their non-conference schedule today with as big of a matchup as they come in college football.

    It’s the first game in a home-and-home series between the Badgers and Crimson Tide with the return contest next year in Alabama. Wisconsin is coming off a 27-13 win over South Dakota, a team in the Football Championship Subdivision. Now, the Badgers will move up a weight class and then some when fourth-ranked Alabama and Heisman Trophy candidate Jalen Milroe comes to town.

    Tawee Walker didn’t have a chance on the 4th and 1 carry (after review upheld the spot), and Deontae Lawson came through the gap untouched for the TFL (might be a no-gain). Alabama gets the ball back at the Alabama 40-yard line.

    TJ Overton gets in on the stop as well for Alabama. Wisconsin has been game for the challenge so far, but that’s a tough battle to lose.

    J.J. Watt does not love the play design.

    Vinny Anthony got some tough yards after contact following an open-field reception on third down; he was marked down just a half-yard short of the chains and a review will determine if that spot is correct.

    UW was primed to go for it otherwise. It’s 4th and 1 on the scoreboard with 1:59 left in the first quarter. Badgers showing some serious fight, even though Locke is still shaky.

    Chez Mellusi converted on 3rd and 2 and then had an 11-yard run to get the ball into Alabama territory, but Braedyn Locke narrowly avoided more disaster when he was blindsided for a sack and fumbled; Mellusi recovered the fumble though.

    UW facing 3rd and 14 at its own 48.

    One stop might not mean everything, but it’s certainly a nice start for a big-time underdog like UW.

    Graham Nicholson’s 46-yard-field goal for Alabama went wide right, meaning UW gets to keep its 3-0 lead with 5:53 left in the first quarter. After Milroe was stuffed by Tackett Curtis, Jamarion Miller rushed for about five yards and Milroe grossly overthrew his man down the sideline to set up fourth down.

    Perhaps Locke will have his sea legs underneath him now after an ugly first series once he jumped into the game for injured starter Tyler Van Dyke. It sure doesn’t look like Van Dyke will come back into this game, meaning it’s Locke’s show from here on out. Locke and Van Dyke battled for the starting job through spring practice and into fall camp.

    The Crimson Tide just had a stretch of four plays in which three went for double-digit yards, and Alabama is already on Wisconsin’s side of the field. The Badgers will need more surefire tackling to keep Alabama in check.

    Jalen Milroe, after taking a deep shot that was unsuccessful down the field, then runs a draw straight up the middle for another 12 yards, and Alabama is on the UW 32-yard line with 7 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Nice tackle by Tackett Curtis to keep Milroe without any yards on the next play, though. Curtis, again, is filling in for Jake Chaney, suspended for the first half after a targeting call last week.

    Locke looks uncomfortable from the jump, throwing two ugly passes (one that should have been intercepted by Keon Sabb) and a one-yard pass that went nowhere to his running back.

    But the good news: Nathanial Vakos makes a 53-yard field goal to give Wisconsin the first points of the game.

    UW’s chances of pulling the upset just got that much harder, though, with Van Dyke leaving this game with what appears to be a serious injury.

    WISCONSIN 3, ALABAMA 0, 9:51/1st

    Potential disaster right out of the gate for Wisconsin, even with a positive play on the field. Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke needed serious help getting to his feet after an apparent injury to his right leg near the sideline following a 7-yard scramble on third down. Alabama was tagged for defensive holding, and UW will have it on the Alabama 35-yard line, but Van Dyke didn’t look good at all.

    Braedyn Locke, who filled in last year when Tanner Mordecai went down with injury, has checked into the game.

    The cart has come to take Van Dyke away. He has his head down sitting in the passenger seat.

    After a pass completed for no gain, Will Pauling hauled in a tipped pass over the middle for an 11-yard pickup at the Wisconsin 36-yard line, and that’s how be begin this game.

    Van Dyke then runs a successful fake handoff before rushing himself for 9 yards on first down to the 45-yard line, and his checkdown shovel to Chez Mellusi picks up the first down at the 47.

    Not a bad start for the Badgers.

    By the way, all the TV experts are picking Alabama to win this game, in case there was doubt.

    Wisconsin will be getting the ball first after Alabama won the coin toss and deferred to the second half.

    Red-and-white smoke pyrotechnics highlighted the National Anthem, followed by a flyover as we approach kickoff. Fans were instructed to wear red or white by section to create a “stripe out,” and the effect appears to be achieved for a national TV audience. We’ll be under way shortly.

    It sounds like star offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor, who has some Big Ten history, will be available today for Alabama. Proctor initially committed to Iowa but flipped to Alabama, then transferred back to Alabama.

    He’s projected to be one of the top picks in the 2026 NFL draft.

    The Badgers are celebrating Ron Dayne’s historic 1999 season in its 25th anniversary today, and Dayne is on hand to soak in the festivities. Dayne, of course, set the NCAA rushing record that year, led his team to the Rose Bowl and came away with the Heisman Trophy.

    UW has unveiled a banner atop his name on the Camp Randall facade that reads “7,125” indicating his career yardage. The game notes today make sure to indicate that he’s the all-time rushing leader in NCAA history. That distinction, however, is complicated. The NCAA didn’t count bowl-game stats on season and career numbers until 2002 and has resisted retroactively awarding those stats to players. Thus, Donnel Pumphrey of San Diego State officially holds the record, but he was given bowl-game yardage that Dayne does not get to count (and Pumphrey still barely edges out Dayne for the top spot).

    Wisconsin isn’t used to being the underdog at home, but Alabama’s 16.5-point edge on the betting line is unlike anything we’ve seen in Madison since 1991, back before the program had completed its renaissance under Barry Alvarez.

    Wisconsin was a 17.5-point underdog against Iowa on Oct. 12, 1991, the last time UW was this big of an underdog at Camp Randall.

    A win over No. 4 Alabama would mark the highest-ranked regular-season victory over an SEC team by ANY Big Ten program. Wisconsin beating No. 5 LSU at Lambeau Field in 2016 is the closest any Big Ten program has come to beating a top-four SEC team. Ohio State beat No. 7 LSU in 1988.

    Scouts are out in full force to see Alabama, as you might expect, including reps from the Green Bay Packers. it’s a jam-packed box at Camp Randall Stadium and 14 NFL teams are on the list to attend.

    Which Alabama players are the top NFL prospects? You can find mock drafts for 2025 that don’t feature any Alabama players at the moment, though guard Tyler Booker. Obviously, they have a boatload of players who will get drafted somewhere, including quarterback Jalen Milroe, center Parker Brailsford, cornerback Domani Jackson, safety Keon Sabb and linebacker Deonte Lawson.

    The Badgers injury report is pretty light on surprises, and that’s good news for Wisconsin. Running back Tawee Walker, who was listed as questionable last week but then did not play against South Dakota, is not on the report at all this week. Freshman cornerback Xavier Lucas, one of the most promising true freshmen on the team, left the South Dakota game early with injury but also does not appear on the list.

    Wide receiver Quincy Burroughs, who was out last week, also appears to be available today.

    The two players who are listed as questionable are tight end Riley Nowakowski and backup right tackle Barrett Nelson. Nowakowski has played in each of the first two games this season and has two catches for 22 yards, both against Western Michigan in Week 1. Nelson has appeared in one game this year.

    The players listed as out include Joe Griffin, a transfer receiver who will not play in 2024, freshman linebacker Thomas Heiberger, transfer defensive lineman Leyton Nelson, freshman tight end Rob Booker and veteran defensive lineman James Thompson Jr., who has a long-term injury. None of those names are surprises.

    Linebacker Jake Chaney will also be missing in the first half for Wisconsin after he was ejected for targeting last week. USC transfer Tackett Curtis filled in admirably in Chaney’s stead.

    Wisconsin vs Alabama: ‘Big Noon Kickoff’ on Fox

    Fox is bringing its ‘Big Noon Kickoff” show to Madison for the Wisconsin-Alabama game.

    The pre-game on-site studio show begins two hours before kickoff at 9 a.m. from the Kohl Center Lawn. Events, with giveaways and prizes, begin at 7:30 a.m.

    Anchor Rob Stone is joined on the desk with a star-studded cast featuring:

    • Mark Ingram II, a 2009 Heisman Trophy winner and Alabama alum
    • Matt Leinart, the 2004 Heisman Trophy winner at USC
    • Brady Quinn, the former Notre Dame quarterback
    • Urban Meyer, the former Ohio State coach and three-time national champion

    Ron Dayne greets Wisconsin Badgers running backs

    Ahead of being honored at Saturday’s game to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his Heisman Trophy season, Wisconsin legend Ron Dayne visited the Badgers’ running backs.

    He shared a few words of advice on Friday for the players and handed out T-shirts that featured the text “Running Back University.”

    During the 1999 season, Dayne set the NCAA’s all-time rushing record.
