Woman dead, suspect arrested after shooting and police chase ends in Charles County

A suspect is in police custody after sending officers on a chase into Charles County following a shooting in Lexington Park that left a woman dead.

Police said officers were called Wednesday morning to a report of a gunshot victim in the 46000 block of Rosewood Drive in Lexington Park, Maryland. At the scene, the shooting victim, identified as a 25-year-old woman, was located and taken to a local hospital, where she later died.

Police quickly determined the shooting was an isolated incident.

Authorities said the alleged shooter led officers on a chase from Lexington Park to Hughesville, Charles County, before he was taken into custody.

The suspect was transported to an area hospital from the scene after police said he appeared to be injured from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

At this time the extent of his injuries is unknown.

According to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, no law enforcement officers fired their weapons during the chase.

Police are currently investigating the area of ​​Rosewood Drive in Lexington Park, where the shooting initially occurred. And the area of ​​the 15000 block of Prince Frederick Road in Hughesville, where the suspect was being held.
