QUOTE FROM THE COACH

“Another heartbreaking loss for a team that plays so hard for each other and plays so well in every aspect of the game other than scoring goals,” said Head Coach Jim Plumer. “I sincerely believe that the tide will soon turn for us and that we will achieve the results we deserve.”

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • No goals were scored in the opening frame as the Catamounts entered the first intermission and outscored the Wildcats seven games to four. Lara Beecher got Vermont’s best chance of the period at 10:14 into the game, shot past the other sideboards and elected to take a snap, but her shot went off the pipe and out of the net, leaving the game scoreless, 0- 0.
  • Beecher saw another excellent scoring opportunity at 7:16 of the second period when she broke free for a breakaway and beat the goaltender with a series of stick handles, but the backhand tuck never found the back of the net, making the 0-0 score was preserved.
  • After a scoreless second period, New Hampshire finally broke the ice and scored on the power play 4:46 into the third frame, with Callista Printz unleashing a wrist shot from the top of the circle, putting it past the glove of Jane Gervais with heavy traffic up front, giving the Wildcats the opening lead at 1-0.
  • The Catamounts never came back as the Wildcats skated away with a 1-0 win at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
