Xavier Newman pulled away on a board after a collision in the third quarter

Jets offensive lineman Xavier Newman was carted off the field on a board after colliding with Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen in the third quarter of Sunday night’s game between New York and Pittsburgh.

The collision occurred during Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop’s second interception of the night. Queen hit Newman near the sideline, knocking Newman out of bounds.

Newman was stabilized with his face mask removed from his helmet. He was placed on a backboard, loaded onto a cart and taken off the field – presumably to be transported to a local hospital.

Newman appeared in his 18th career game. He was brought into the match after Alijah Vera-Tucker went down with an ankle injury in the first half.

UPDATE 10:45 PM ET: According to NBC’s Melissa Stark, Newman is on his way to a local hospital and has movement in his limbs while squeezing a trainer’s hand.
