play

It was a scary situation for the New York Jets on Sunday night when offensive lineman Xavier Newman was taken off the field on the blue board against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.

Here’s the latest on what we know about Newman’s status:

What happened to Xavier Newman?

With 7:22 left in the third quarter, Newman was knocked to the ground by Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen.

He stood on the sidelines for a few minutes as the training staff attended to him.

According to the NBC broadcast, they stabilized his neck, placed him in a spinal position and placed him on a stretcher while he was taken to a Pittsburgh-area hospital.

Newman reportedly experienced movement in his limbs while squeezing the hands of athletic trainers, according to the broadcast.

Who is Xavier Newman’s backup on the Jets depth chart?

Although not a starter, a potential name for Newman now will be Jake Hanson on the offensive line.

Xavier Newman Stats

Newman, who has played in all six special teams games this season, saw snaps on the offensive line tonight due to the unit’s injuries.

The guard left Baylor in 2022 and spent two seasons with the Titans since joining the Jets organization in 2023.
