Everything Lowcountry voters need to know before heading to the polls

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Voters in the Lowcountry are urged to come to the polls as Tuesday is Election Day for the expected 2024 presidential election.

The South Carolina Board of Elections saw record numbers during the early voting period. More than 730,000 early voters showed up before Election Day, November 5.

Voters planning to cast their ballots on Tuesday are urged to come to the prepared polling station. This is stated by the State Election Commission campaign material is not permitted within 150 meters of the polling station entrance. This includes clothing, pamphlets, posters and small objects such as pins or buttons.

Isaac Cramer, executive director of the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections, says the unacceptable materials are for current candidates. Cramer says poll workers will remove all campaign materials within the 500-foot zone.

“If you’re wearing a shirt they’ll say ‘wear it inside out’, you’ll probably go to the toilet or back to your car… If you’re wearing a hat we’ll probably ask you to go back to your car or that bit to put down reading material,” says Cramer. “We know people are handing out pamphlets, we know you might take a pamphlet with you, but we just ask that you put it in your bag. , put it in your pocket or return it to your vehicle.

Cramer urges voters to preview their ballot before heading to the polls. He says looking at the sample ballot online helps speed up the voting process.

“The vote will consist of the president, Congress, you have local elections as well as the constitutional amendment, local provincial questions and those will just be longer for the voters to review,” says Cramer.

Election officials encourage voters to be voter-ready by being aware of any changes to the voting location. Voters can find their location online at State Election Commission website.

Voters in Charleston County will see permanent location changes starting on Election Day. Officials say residents received change via notification cards. County government officials say the changes should better serve voters with fewer lines, a faster voter experience and greater access for the disabled.
