GOP has covered up claims of ‘sexual harassment and assault’

Marjorie Taylor Greene made a sensational claim that her Republican colleagues in Congress covered up “sexual harassment and assault claims” by paying victims with taxpayer dollars.

The MAGA diehard made the revelation after a growing number of Republican politicians have expressed reservations about Donald Trump’s choice to appoint scandal-scarred former lawmaker Matt Gaetz as his attorney general.

“To my Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives and the Senate,” she began. “If we’re going to release ethics reports and pick apart ours that appointed Trump, then put it ALL out there for the American people to see.”

Greene’s request would include requiring the House Ethics Committee to release the findings of its investigation into 42-year-old Gaetz, who was accused this week of paying two women for sex. One of those women reportedly testified that they also witnessed the then-freshman congressman having sex with a 17-year-old girl at a house party five years ago.

The congressional ethics panel also reportedly investigated allegations that Gaetz used illegal drugs and accepted bribes. Gaetz has denied all allegations made against him over the years, claiming he is the victim of an extortion plot by people within the Department of Justice.

Greene said there are other lawmakers with skeletons in their closets, but did not mention them by name. CNN reported in 2017 that Congress has paid as much as $17 million to victims of sexual harassment and discrimination through the organization’s Office of Compliance since its creation in the 1990s.

“All ethics reports and claims, including the ones I filed,” Greene said, listing the things she plans to make public. “All your sexual harassment and assault claims were settled in secret, with the victims paid with taxpayer dollars. Jeffrey Epstein’s complete files, tapes, recordings, witness interviews.”

Other lawmakers did not rush to support Greene’s request. Many Republicans have remained silent on Gaetz’s ethics investigation, which was set to be released last week but was put on hold indefinitely after he abruptly resigned from Congress.

Greene suggested there is no reason that completed reports and settlements involving lawmakers — including Gaetz’s investigation — should not be made public. Although she wrote that she had filed an ethics report herself, she did not specify what or who it involved.

The Georgia Firebrand ended with a commitment to make as many claims public as possible: “If we’re going to dance, let’s all dance in the sunlight. I will make sure we do that.”
