Suspended Alabama football LB files paperwork to enter transfer portal

A suspended Alabama football LB will not rejoin the team as it was reported Tuesday that he was filing paperwork to gain access to the NCAA’s transfer portal.

Redshirt junior Keanu Koht did not make the trip to Baton Rouge for Alabama’s game against LSU and Monday after head coach Kalen DeBoer announced Koht was suspended and would not play against Mercer.

No timetable was announced by DeBoer or a reason given for Koht’s suspension. But now it seems that Koht will not return to the team and plans to enter the transfer portal and look for a new opportunity for 2025.

Koht’s decision comes in the wake of Alabama losing Que Robinson to injury for the remainder of the season, leaving the Crimson Tide in a tight spot at the Wolf position. There is now little in terms of experienced depth behind starter Qua Russaw.

Koht had yet to make a big impact in Tuscaloosa, but he was a veteran player in the program who could provide the Crimson Tide with quality snaps. With Koht gone and Robinson injured, Russaw will have to continue to play a greater number of snaps and young players like Yhonzae Pierre will be given tasks they may not be fully prepared for.
