Gracie Abrams feels ‘at home’ on stage in Boston

play

Singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams just played the MGM Music Hall in Fenway and she immediately felt at home in front of the sold-out crowd.

“Boston, thank you so much. I love you from the bottom of my heart,” Abrams told the crowd. “Being here with all of you feels like coming home. New England is home.”

Currently on tour for her latest album ‘The Secret of Us’, Abrams recently hit some roadblocks with a vocal injury that forced her to cancel a number of shows. In Boston, however, Abrams had a successful show, happily singing her hits while adorned with a Boston Red Sox hat.

Is Gracie Abrams from Boston?

While the singer feels at home in Boston, Abrams is not from Beantown. The daughter of “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” filmmaker JJ Abrams, she was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. However, Abrams developed a special bond with New England by regularly visiting her mother’s family in Maine during her childhood, where her family would drive after flying to Boston.

“This really feels like home. A lot of my family is from this part of town,” Abrams said on the show. “Not only has Boston been a super important place in my life, just growing up and family and all that, but some of my favorite shows we’ve ever played have been here.”

Abrams often mentions the city in her songs, including “Tough Love,” which Abrams dedicated to the Boston audience, and “Augusta,” which she performed as a surprise song.

Near the end of the show, Abrams brought out the opening act and the Maine-native Role Model to sing “Feels Like.” In July, Abrams performed “Everywhere, Everything” with fellow New Englander Noah Kahan at Fenway Park. Both Kahan and Abrams were thrilled to play the iconic New England venue, with Kahan calling it the “best night of his life” and Abrams calling it “one of the best moments” of hers.
