Hot Frosty had his time in the sun, but now he’s passed his Top 10 mantle to another Christmas movie on Netflix. I was going to say that it seems too early for all those Christmas movies, but there’s a snowstorm raging outside my window right now, so maybe not.

The new film that has surpassed Hot Frosty is called The Merry Gentlemen, starring Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray. It’s a bit more outrageous than Hot Frosty considering the subject matter. The official summary:

“To save her parents’ small-town gig, a former big-city dancer decides to perform an all-male, Christmas-themed revue.”

So Magic Mike, but Christmas. Sure, why not. And yes, Chad Michael Murray, of One Tree Hill fame, is the central stripper in question. You may not recognize Britt Robertson, but she’s had dozens of projects over the past decade, including roles in Big Sky, Little Fires Everywhere, and For the People.

Unlike Hot Frosty, which arrived with perfect 100% reviews, The Merry Gentlemen doesn’t have enough reviews for a total yet. Of the seven in, only two are positive, meaning this may not be able to radiate the same endearing Christmas spirit as Hot Frosty. Shame.

I’d expect to see Christmas movie after Christmas movie appear on this list as we march towards the holidays, including some of these low-budget, one-off Netflix originals. Right now these are the only two on the list, but they rank first and second. The rest are mostly licensed films like Rob Peace, Focus, Father Figures and somehow The Fast and the Furious. Like the original. Plus children’s films The Secret Life of Pets and Sing. The only other interesting offer is number 3: Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy, which is about tricks companies use to get us to buy things all the time. Relevant ahead of Black Friday after Thanksgiving, I think. And Cyber ​​Monday, which I can’t believe we still call Cyber ​​Monday in 2024.

I highly recommend Hot Frosty, it’s silly but endearing and sometimes really funny, thanks to a cast that includes Schitt’s Creek, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Office veterans. The cheerful gentlemen? It seems that this may not be the best option for holiday fun. Not even the best shirtless option, because Hot Frosty has that too.
