Important to know: Bruins returns home with the goal of skidding

BOSTON – The Bruins are back on home ice Thursday night when they host the Dallas Stars at TD Garden. Boston will look to snap its two-game skid after dropping the last two games on the Western road trip.

“We have a chance tonight to bounce back and start understanding how we need to play to get better,” Bruins captain Brad Marchand said after the morning skate at Warrior Ice Arena. “We watched a video today to see where we can make improvements. It’s an opportunity for us to work on that and get better. You can’t keep looking at the past, at things we cannot change.

“It’s about looking ahead and understanding things that we need to get a little better at every day and work towards every day.”

Bruins coach Jim Montgomery added that he is most concerned about the team’s process and making sure it is supported as the team navigates early-season struggles.

“I’m a process-oriented coach and there are certain things that drive results,” Montgomery said. “Our process is not really good at the moment. If you want your team to be consistent, I need to be consistent in my messaging. We’ve given up too many strange man rushes and most of them have been derived from turnovers. That doesn’t mean that we are patient in our attacking games and that we take too many penalties.

“And all those things are part of our process and lead to results. Our results are our top-class opportunities and that’s not where we’re hitting our numbers right now.”
