Jason Bateman and David Harbor to star in HBO dark comedy ‘DTF St. Louis’

Jason Bateman and David Harbor will star in and executive produce a seven-episode series on HBO, titled DTF St. Louis, the story of a love triangle between three adults whose uneasiness in middle age leads to the death of one of them.

Described as a darkly comedic limited series, DTF St. Louis comes from showrunner, writer, director and executive producer Steven Conrad (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Patriot).

“We are extremely excited to be working with the brilliant author Steve Conrad, whose unique vision is central to all of his work as a storyteller,” said Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming in a statement. “With David Harbor and Jason Bateman at series center, two masterful titans in their own right, we couldn’t be more invigorated by the journey ahead and look forward to sharing this special, emotionally provocative piece with the world in the near future.

DTF St. Louis was originally inspired by the James Lasdun New Yorker article The murder trial of my dentist: adultery, false identities and a fatal anesthetic. The originally planned series was called The murder trial of my dentist, a true crime drama about Kingston, New York, dentist Dr. Gilberto Nunez (Pedro Pascal), who came to trial for allegedly killing his friend Tom Kolman (David Harbour).

The executive producers of DTF St. Louis also Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch for Escape Artists; Molly Allen; Bruce Terris; Michael Costigan for Bateman’s Aggregate Films; Kristina Wenson for Bravo Axolotl; James Lasdun; and MGM Television.

David Harbor is coming off his five-season run as Jim Hopper on Netflix Stranger thingswill conclude with the final eight episodes at an undisclosed date in 2025. Jason Bateman ended his four-season run as Marty Byrde in the Netflix drama Ozark in 2022. He will next be seen in Netflix’s feature film Continuewhich falls on December 13th.
