Jason Kelce Addresses Altercation With Fan Who Insulted Travis About Dating Taylor Swift: ‘I’m Not Proud Of It’

Jason Kelce kicked off ESPN’s broadcast of “Monday Night Countdown” by speaking about his altercation with a Penn State football fan last weekend. The delivery came ahead of Monday night’s game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs.

“I’m not happy with what took place,” Kelce said during the show’s opening segment. “I’m not proud of it. In a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate, and I don’t think that’s a productive thing. No way. I don’t think this will lead to discussion and (I don’t think) it’s the right way to go about things. At that point I dropped to a level I shouldn’t have.

“The bottom line is I want to live my life — I try to live my life — by the ‘golden rule,’” Kelce continued. “That’s what I was always taught. I try to treat people with common decency and respect, and I will continue to do that in the future, even though I fell short this week.”

Kelce then referred the conversation back to coverage of Monday night’s game, adding that he “didn’t think that was necessarily the platform to go into more detail.”

On Saturday, Kelce threw a fan’s phone to the ground after taunts and homophobic comments were made towards him. As you walk behind Kelce, you hear a fan make homophobic comments about the relationship between Taylor Swift and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Jason’s brother: “Kelce, how does it feel that your brother is a favorite to date Taylor Swift? “

After seemingly hearing the question, Jason turned around and appeared to grab the phone of the fan who uttered the slur and throw it to the ground. The fan then demanded that Jason give him the phone back, to which Jason said, “Who’s the dad now?”

Kelce, the former Philadelphia Eagles center, was in State College to appear on “College GameDay,” which was also in town to spotlight the top-5 matchup between Penn State and Ohio State.

Swift will be at the game at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night. She has been regularly attending Chiefs games since she started dating Travis in 2023. She last attended a Chiefs game on Oct. 7 during Kansas City’s Monday night win against the New Orleans Saints.
