LAWRENCE — Kansas football (1-1) will be without one of its top running backs Friday against UNLV (2-0), as a KU official said Daniel Hishaw Jr. is unavailable due to an illness.

Hishaw, a redshirt junior, is part of a formidable Jayhawks duo at the position alongside senior Devin Neal. Hishaw ranks second on the team in attempts and yards, with 16 carries for 105 yards through two games so far. He also has one touchdown and a long run of 24 yards.

Hishaw’s absence means Kansas may have to rely more on the likes of redshirt junior running back Sevion Morrison, and potentially redshirt freshman running back Johnny Thompson Jr. Morrison has eight carries for 45 yards and a score this season. Thompson has five carries for 32 yards.

Neal leads the way for Kansas running backs thus far with 213 yards on 22 carries for two touchdowns. He continues to establish himself as one of the Jayhawks’ best running backs ever. He could also receive the vast majority of the carries Friday.
