Mercedes’ George Russell was perfect in his launch from pole position as the Las Vegas Grand Prix got underway, retaining the lead at Turn 1 as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc jumped from P4 to P2.

When the second-ever Las Vegas Grand Prix started, there was far less controversy than the first race of the 2023 race, with all drivers completing Round 1 cleanly.

Leclerc started from P4 on the grid and judged the grip perfectly in Turns 1-3 to slip past the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz to take P2.

Meanwhile, two of the strongest racers on the grid – RB’s Liam Lawson and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen – enjoyed a thrilling battle as they dueled for a spot outside the top 10. Title rivals Max Verstappen and Lando Norris retained their starting positions of P5 and P6 – with Norris having to beat Verstappen by three points to keep the title fight alive.
