New Mexico government releases $1 million for Roswell flood relief following state of emergency

Following the flooding in and around Roswell, New Mexico’s governor signed an emergency declaration Monday, freeing up $1 million in state funding for flood relief.

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said she had declared Chaves County a state of emergency and ordered the state Treasury Department to allocate $750,000 to the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and $250,000 to the National Guard, as they continue to provide support in the fight against the state. Emergency response initiatives following the heavy flooding that started on Saturday.

“My declaration of a state of emergency for Chaves County will help support local recovery efforts in the wake of historic and severe flooding in and around Roswell,” said Lujan Grisham. “I am grateful for the quick actions taken by local authorities and our state departments to help communities in need. My government is assisting on the ground and will continue to provide strong support for the relief efforts.”
