A new day means a new one Connections puzzle, and Wednesday’s game has a specific theme for the 500 milestone.

The brainteaser was released by The New York Times in June 2023 and has become the publication’s second most popular game. Wordanother word puzzle created by engineer Josh Wardle is currently in the top spot.

In June, Connections developer and New York Times crossword editor Wyna Liu, narrated Newsweek that it “takes a long time” to figure out the daily puzzle, noting that she tries “different angles” before landing on the final product.

“Every plate has to be made from scratch,” she said.

Play ‘Connections’ instructions

Connections is easy to master, so don’t worry if this is your first try. To start, players are given a table of 16 words and must divide these words into four groups of four based on common characteristics.

Each group of four words fits into a specific category, ranging from yellow to green to blue to purple, with yellow being the easiest and purple the hardest.

For example, in Tuesday’s game, the words “Bingo,” “Marco Polo,” “Tag,” and “Uno” were associated with the category “Games where you say the name of the game.” This was a purple category.

Although there is no time limit on the game, users are only allowed four guesses before the answers are revealed.
