Oklahoma State quarterback Garret Rangel will be “out for a while,” coach Mike Gundy told the media after Friday night’s 38-35 loss to BYU.

Rangel left the game late in the second quarter after breaking away for a 54-yard run. OSU sideline reporter Robert Allen reported that the redshirt sophomore suffered a collarbone injury.

Gundy said Rangel was out, but did not provide details on the time frame of the injury.

“I don’t know, but he’ll be gone for a while,” Gundy said. “It’s hard for me to predict.”

Friday’s game marked the first start of the season for Rangel, who replaced the struggling Alan Bowman. Rangel completed 6 of his 9 passes (66.7%) for 51 yards, one touchdown and one interception prior to his injury, and he ran the ball five times for 77 yards.

Bowman came into the game as a quarterback for OSU. The seventh-year quarterback started the first six games of the season for the Cowboys.

“Bowman is in. Rangel is out. It is what it is,” Gundy said during his halftime radio interview.
