Premier League predictions and best bets: Ollie Watkins set to cause Everton more misery | Football News

Our football betting expert Jones Knows is back to share his views on every Premier League match and predicts a weekend treble at odds of 11/1.

Brighton vs Ipswich, Saturday 3pm

Are Brighton the real deal? The markets are screaming for it after three games of the Fabian Hurzeler era.

According to the general odds (9/2 on Sky Bet), they are on par with Manchester United for a top four finish, with a top six finish being 13/8, given their much stronger start to the season.

No European football is certain to go their way, nor are the many attacking options in their forward line, such as Kaoru Mitoma, who looks too expensive to score at 2/1 with Sky Bet in a winnable match for Brighton.

The Japanese star reflects on his best season in 22/23, when he averaged a goal in almost every other Premier League game at the Amex. He can secure a home win.

SCORE PREDICTION: 3-1

Crystal Palace vs Leicester, Saturday 3pm

I have yet to see any hard evidence that Leicester have the firepower to avoid relegation this season.

They have created just 1.33 expected goals from open play in their three games so far and looked woefully short of ideas against Aston Villa last weekend, despite what looked like a nerve-wracking 2-1 scoreline to Villa. It was far more comfortable than that.

Meanwhile, Oliver Glasner should be able to steer Palace in the right direction now that the transfer window has closed. Palace have come out of it better than many predicted.

And I was very impressed with their performance in the second half at Chelsea, where the introduction of forgotten player Cheick Doucoure completely breathed new life into their midfield.

He and Adam Wharton could develop a very fine partnership there – one that should lead to a routine home win in this fixture, where a Palace win and under 3.5 goals at Sky Bet (13/8) would be worth considering.

SCORE PREDICTION: 2-0

Fulham vs West Ham, Saturday 3pm

West Ham left-back Emerson Palmieri could have his hands full with a revitalised Adama Traore on Fulham’s right flank. Opposition left-backs are always liable for cards and fouls when the price is high against the powerful winger.

Traore has received 64 cards from opposition players in the Premier League, while he and right-back Kenny Tete have committed a combined eight fouls in their three appearances this season.

Prices such as the 6/4 with Sky Bet for Emerson to make two faults along with the 9/2 for him to be carded are both live. If you combine the two you can call up a 7/1 shot via the BuildABet feature with Sky Bet.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-1

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest, Saturday 3pm – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

Nottingham Forest’s defensive process under Nuno Espirito Santo deserves more respect than the markets give them here. In the 24 games since his appointment, only Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool have a better expected goals conceded output than Forest (1.24 per 90), and they have conceded two or more goals in just four of their last 17 games in all competitions.

I can trust them to keep the match exciting.

Liverpool have played with more control and less chaos under Arne Slot, which has seen their attacking output suffer in the first half. They have only fired 3-5-4 shots in the first half in games against Ipswich, Brentford and Manchester United and have exceeded their expected goalscoring output before the break.

The expectation is that the total number of goals in this match will be over three, which seems high. But a first half with less than 1.5 goals (8/11 on Sky Bet) seems the safest way to play against goals.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-0 | JONES KNOWS BEST BET: Under 1.5 goals in the first half (8/11 at Sky Bet – part of the 11/1 weekend treble!)

Man City vs Brentford, Saturday 3pm – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

Considering how relentless and focused Manchester City have been at the start of the season, this should be another predictable bet, with the odds high that City will win and Erling Haaland will score.

Manchester City and Noel Gallagher have teamed up with Puma to launch a new kit to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Oasis’ album Definitely Maybe

We need to be creative to find an angle and the Brentford offside line with two or more offside lines at 10/11 with Sky Bet has a good chance. The Bees have been flagged offside 20 times in the last five meetings with City, with the ‘two or more’ line landing every time. They get the ball forward quickly and City’s high line means there are always offside chances for the opposition.

SCORE PREDICTION: 3-1

Aston Villa vs Everton, Saturday 5.30pm, live on Sky Sports – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

Jarrad Branthwaite is getting better with every game he misses for Everton, who have been without him six times since the start of last season, losing five of them, conceding an average of 2.5 goals per game. With the noise around Goodison Park louder than ever, it’s a nightmare for Sean Dyche.

Aston Villa won 12 of their 18 games against teams finished in 12th place or lower last season and were unbeaten in all 10 of their home Premier League games against teams from the bottom half, winning eight of them.

The fact that Ollie Watkins was given some time to recharge during the international break doesn’t bode well for Everton either. The Villa striker has failed to score in his last seven appearances in all competitions, and has missed six big chances. That doesn’t worry me though – he’s too lethal a finisher to extend that run much longer. Villa win with Watkins scoring at 7/4 with Sky Bet looks like a winner in the making.

SCORE PREDICTION: 3-1 | JONES KNOWS BEST BET: Ollie Watkins to score in Aston Villa win (7/4 with Sky Bet – part of weekend 11/1 treble)

Bournemouth vs Chelsea, Saturday 8pm, live on Sky Sports – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

This promises to be a lively match. Chelsea looked red hot at times in their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, but also missed key moments in the match, preventing them from converting their open play into a win.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth failed to win any of their 12 Premier League games against the top six last season – just two points from a possible 36 – and haven’t looked quite as watertight this season, conceding 25 goals in their four games in all competitions. Goals should be on the menu, with goalscorer prices including 15/8 with Sky Bet on Antoine Semenyo and 2/1 on Noni Madueke, both of which are likely to provide a decent run for punters.

SCORE PREDICTION: 2-2

Tottenham vs Arsenal, Sunday 2pm, live on Sky Sports – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

With Arsenal’s selection issues in midfield, without Martin Odegaard or Declan Rice, I can imagine Mikel Arteta treating this game as a Champions League knockout match away in a partisan atmosphere. Leaving with a point will be seen as a good result.

GRAPHIC

It will be low-risk football, with the aim of silencing the home crowd at every opportunity, and I have confidence that Arsenal can frustrate Spurs on the strength of their spectacular away record. Arsenal have taken 28 points from a possible 30 away games in 2024 and are not yet behind on away games this year. It is a defence that has conceded just three goals in those 10 games.

The way to frustrate an Ange Postecoglou team is to defend in numbers and block the overloads out wide, as Spurs aren’t very streetwise in trying to break down low-block defences. They become a shot-making team, but their expected goalscoring output isn’t quite up to par with what’s expected – which points to a problem with creating quality chances.

I think Arsenal can send this match into a goalless situation at 11/8, with Sky Bet offering great value with under 2.5 goals.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-1 | JONES KNOWS BEST BET: Under 2.5 goals (11/8 at Sky Bet – (part of 7/1 weekend treble!)

Wolves vs Newcastle, Sunday 4.30pm, live on Sky Sports – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

My gambling instincts led me to the predicted intense battle in midfield in this match.

Newcastle’s trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and possibly Sandro Tonali are all midfielders who are quick to attack and foul heavy. If you add up their foul averages from last season, they commit 5.8 fouls per 90 minutes between them. Even this season, Joelinton and Guimaraes have committed 18 fouls between them in the Premier League.

I’m expecting similar averages for the trip to Molineux, where I fancy Wolves midfielder Mario Lemina’s prices to be fouled against that fouling madness of a Newcastle midfield. He’s attracted 15 fouls in his last 14 starts for Wolves, including two in the 1-1 draw with Forest last weekend, so the 7/2 with Sky Bet for him to be fouled twice looks a runner.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-1
