Rams’ Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford discuss Week 2 loss at Arizona

“It was one of those days that was really humbling, and you know, luckily we didn’t feel a lot of that stuff, but tough times don’t last, tough people do. There’s a lot of things that haven’t necessarily gone according to plan in the first couple of weeks, but today wasn’t something I expected.” – McVay

McVay said Arizona stole the momentum from the first drive of the play and never got it back. After Blake Corum made his first NFL touch on the opening kickoff at the Cardinals’ 49-yard line, the Rams failed to convert on 4th-and-2 on the first set of downs, giving the Cardinals excellent field position.

McVay said “there’s nothing positive about (the game)” other than the fact that it’s over now and the team can work on improving. Cardinals Quarterback Kyler Murray drew a lot of praise from McVay for his ability to make off-schedule plays, avoid the pocket and capitalize on missed opportunities by the Rams.

The loss is “not something we’re OK with,” McVay said, adding that the run game wasn’t what it should have been and that the five sacks were tough to overcome. This is the first time McVay has started a season 0-2 as a head coach, and he said he has to look at the film as a whole to figure out how to best address the missteps on both sides of the ball.
