SNL reprises Ariana Grande’s viral Domingo sketch with Charli XCX and Chappell Roan cover

Saturday evening live brought back a fan-favorite sketch during the latest episode.

Charli XCX, 32, served as both SNLs presenter and musical guest on November 16. A month after host Ariana Grande broke the internet with the viral “Domingo” skit on October 12, the British pop star shared her own rendition of the skit with a hilarious version of Chappell Roan’s “Hot to Go.”

In Grande’s skit, she performed an off-key rendition of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” at a wedding with cast members Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim and Sarah Sherman. Chloe Fineman played the bride, while her bridal party sang about the group’s bachelor party – where they met the mysterious Domingo (Marcello Hernandez).

This time around, Charli replaced Grande’s character at a baby shower for her cousin Kelsey (Fineman). The singers were back again, singing Chappell’s hit Roan, although they changed the words to reflect their recent “babymoon” trip to Miami, Florida.

“We’re getting facials at the spa, but Kelsey’s not talking at all,” Charli sang, also off key. Nwodim then said, “We say, ‘Kelsey, stop calling,’ because we know who’s texting them! We know who’s texting them!’

The cast then spelled out “DOMINGO” to the tune of “Hot To Go,” as the lyrics hinted that Hernandez’s Domingo could be the father of Kelsey’s baby.

Fans were excited for Domingo’s return, as one user on X/Twitter wrote: “No, this means the world to me.”

However, some people felt that nothing could top the original starring Grande, with one person saying, “I’m sorry, but there can never be another espresso domingo.”

Charli appeared in several sketches during the show, including a sketch about Shrek the musical and perform a song with it Brooklyn 99 star Andy Samberg. In another sketch mockingly America’s next top model on Thanksgiving, the singer played Victoria Beckham.

While on stage, she was introduced by Julia Fox before performing the song ‘360’ from her critically acclaimed album. Brat. For her second performance, Charli sang “Sympathy is a Knife,” also from the 2024 album.

Meanwhile, the SNL cast mocked the controversial cabinet choices of newly-elected President Donald Trump in the cold open skit on Saturday evening. The skit, which began by mocking Trump and President Joe Biden’s transition meeting, was a jab at the many people who could join the newly elected president’s Cabinet in January.

“It’s about surrounding yourself with the best people,” said comedian James Austin Johnson, playing Trump in the skit. “And I comprehensively choose the most epic cabinet of all time. They are among the most dynamic, free-thinking, animal-killing, sexually criminal and medically insane people in the country.”

Sherman played Matt Gaetz, Trump’s chosen attorney general, who faces allegations of sexual misconduct in a “damaging report” to be released by the House Ethics Committee. Alec Baldwin also returned to SNL as Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a noted vaccine skeptic whom Trump has chosen to lead Health and Human Services.
