SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Thurston High School is on lockdown due to a threat to the school, according to Springfield Public School and the Springfield Police Department (SPD).

The school district says no one is allowed in or out of the building because that’s where students are sheltering. Springfield Public Schools spokesman Brian Richardson says everyone is safe.

Out of an abundance of caution, Thurston Elementary, Thurston Middle school and Ridgeview Elementary have been excluded due to the threat to Thurston High School.

A statement on the school’s website regarding the lockdown read:

Thurston High School will remain in lockdown until the end of the day due to today’s threat. Springfield Police continue to maintain a large presence at the school as they diligently investigate the threat. Students will remain on site to ensure everyone’s safety.

We will have a controlled release of students beginning at 12:40 PM. Students will be released to their normal mode of after-school transportation. Springfield police remain on campus. Students traveling by bus will be taken to the cafeteria for lunch before boarding the bus at the normal time.

No one is allowed to enter or leave a school that has been excluded and teaching and learning continues in those schools. The public is urged not to attend these schools.

In a statement on their Facebook page, Springfield Police said:

The Springfield Police Department is actively investigating threats against area schools. Out of an abundance of caution, our officers are on site. As always, we are working closely with Springfield School District officials and will share updates as they become available.
