What the Cardinals said – Week 12 2024: Seahawks vs. Cardinals

JONATHAN GANNON: Injury front, I think we’re doing well. Nothing too crazy to note. You know, not our best game. Not enough done (in) all three phases. Give credit to Seattle. I thought they played extremely well. I just told the team there that we are going to learn a lot from this match. We have to get back to work tomorrow and learn and improve from this match. So we will have energy and focus for that.

What do you think they will learn?

JONATHAN GANNON: I think I appreciate the ball. I felt like the interception was a big play. I think we need to protect the quarterback better. It seemed like the bag collapsed a little too much. That goes for all 11. That’s not just the O-line. It’s the quarterback, the (running) backs, the receivers, the timing, the rhythm. I thought I have to do better defensively when they start playing a certain style, we still have to have a few more bullets. That was entirely up to me because I wanted a strict menu this week. That wasn’t good of me. So we’ll just get back to it, the basics and everything that has to do with winning and losing. That’s what we’ll look at tomorrow.

JONATHAN GANNON: It created a heavy dose of pressure there on third down, and it looked like they were starting to run a four-man rush in games. We just have to do a good job in pass-pro. It’s not just about the offense, it’s also about the offensive line. I think it’s the route details of when guys need to get open, things like that. That’s all 11 (players). So we’ll get back to it. We will recover from it.

Are you completely surprised by the run game today? You guys did such a great job.

JONATHAN GANNON: Yeah, I felt like it started out a little sloppy, and then we got it moving, and then we made a few mistakes. I thought there were clearances there, but again, where you end up in that game, you’re not really playing a normal ball there for much of the game. So we have to do a better job earlier in the match to make sure we don’t play left-handed.

What do you think made going against Leonard Williams so difficult?

JONATHAN GANNON: He’s a good player. We knew he was a good player when he came in. He is a premium player for a reason. Hats off to him. He has always been a good player, and I think we have to look at that, how we can adapt and deal with him better, because I thought he ruined the game.

One of the areas where Kyler Murray has really excelled this year is that he has been fantastic under pressure. Today it seemed like when there was pressure, there was a battle for offense. Have you seen that?

JONATHAN GANNON: Coach and player. We all need to look in the mirror and think of better ways and make sure he is not under duress. Like I said, we will have a lot of energy and focus on how we can get better from this game.

What information did you get from Marvin Harrison Jr.’s possible touchdown review?

JONATHAN GANNON: No touchdown.

Kyler was in the medical tent at the very end.

JONATHAN GANNON: Yeah, I think that came from the top. They called down. The man – we call it ‘burped him’ – took off a hood and fell on him. He lost his wind. That’s why he didn’t get up right away. They thought it was a main problem and forced him into the tent, but he was fine.

What did you think of the pressure your D-line was able to generate?

JONATHAN GANNON: I thought it was good. We are going to learn a lot with our four-man emergency technicians. I feel like we need to do better because a lot of his overtimes left us feeling hurt. Off the top of my head, two or three conversions on third down, and we had a four-man rush. So we have to cover better and rush a little better. We knew when he came to Geno that he is a very good player. He can move, play and extend, but that is also something we will learn a lot from. We have to do a better job at that.

That said, do you feel like your defense gave you a chance today?

JONATHAN GANNON: Yes, I do. I thought they hung there and fought, forced some kicks, kept points off the board. I thought the interception by Garrett (Williams) was great, kept us in the game there and kept points off the board. We made some mistakes. We’ve made some mistakes, starting with me. I’m mad at myself for being the first offender, but then we get better as a staff and the players get better.

Do you attribute these offensive line issues to a lack of continuity with the rotations (with the first unit)?

JONATHAN GANNON: No, I don’t.
