play

Fall brings football, cooler temperatures and the eternal question: when does time change?

People across the U.S. — even in states like Arizona, where most don’t observe daylight saving time — are beginning to wonder when the clocks will go back, adding an extra hour of daylight for the next four months, until daylight saving time 2025 on Sunday starts. March 9.

Here’s what you need to know about when the time will change in fall 2024, whether we’ll gain an hour in November and why some parts of Arizona observe daylight saving time and others don’t.

When does time change in autumn?

The time will change on Sunday November 3 at 2am. Then Daylight Savings Time ends in 2024 and clocks will be reset to 1 a.m. in most of the country.

Will we get an hour of profit in November?

Yes. When the clocks turn back one hour on November 3, people living in states that observe daylight saving time will get an extra hour of daylight.

Why Arizona Doesn’t Observe Daylight Saving Time

Arizona does not observe daylight saving time, mainly due to its warm climate.

By staying on standard time year-round, Arizona avoids extending daylight hours into the summer evenings, when temperatures are at their peak. This is intended to help reduce energy consumption for air conditioning and make evenings more comfortable.

Arizona opted out of daylight saving time in 1968 and has remained on Mountain Standard Time year-round ever since, according to the Pima County Public Library. The only exception is the Navajo Nation, which observes daylight saving time in line with other parts of its territory extending into Utah and New Mexico.
